Little Man and His First Baseball Game

What a great weekend!  Technically, it wasn't his first baseball game but it was the first one he'll remember. Last one I took him to was four years ago, this month actually.  I used to be a huge baseball fan, even to the point of taping missed games.  I kinda lost interest in it when the kids started Little League, wrestling, lacrosse, football, tae kwon do, etc.  Besides,  after Junior and The Big Unit left Seattle and El Gato left Atlanta, it just wasn't the same any more.

But I've always loved A - AAA games.  Especially single and double A games.  They are so much fun!  So, this weekend, we took Little Man to one of the local Double-A teams, the Bowie Baysox, of the Orioles' farm team league.  What a great time!  Little Man was so excited.  He's actually (gasp) never even played baseball.  It's  been all LAX and football with him.  Now today I had to go buy him a glove, which is very cool..We had AWESOME seats!  Third baseline, four rows up.  Considering there were a total of seven lefties between the two teams, there were some dicey moments, though!  So, back to the game.

First, there was Louie, the Baysox mascot.

And who doesn't love the games they play between innings?  Where else do you find kids running the Preakness at a baseball game?

There were the Sumo wrestlers.....

And Louie's personal visit to Little Man...

Then, there was the game.  This pic was actually taken with my camera by Little Man himself....

And the stealing of third base...I remember watching Komminsk play pro ball in the '80s and now he's the coach for the Baysox.  Very cool!  And it's not everyday you get to see someone steal third...
And to end the night, there were the fireworks.  It was great weather, a great game (even though we lost 9-6) and great fun.

By the time we got home, Little Man and I both probably felt like this...
But it was a great time...Completely broke my diet and had four beers, a hot dog, some french fries, popcorn and split cotton candy with Little Man.  So today, I drank tea and water all day...But you know?  You just can't go to a game and not have a cold beer and a dog..It's un-American.  Besides, there is nowhere else in the world that I will get carded to get a beer.  Too bad I didn't carry my ID in with me so The Man had to go back up and get my beers..
Man, it was sooooo worth it....

Minor league games are always fun abd the best for kids. There is always something happening and if you need to leave early there isn't a problem.

I know! We used to go see a team called the Visala Oaks in Cali...$5 tix and just a great time. Hell, the hubs "sprung" for $14 lower level reserved seating...You can't go to the movies for that much fun anymore!

What's the story behind the park being named 'Prince George's Stadium'? That sounds very Canadian.

The minor leagues are more fun than the big show. The seats are better and the prices are reasonable. We have the Reading Phillies and Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs here.
